Jean Dodds' Canine Vaccination Protocol (2016)

Minimal Vaccine Use

By W. Jean Dodds, DVM
Hemopet / NutriScan
9 - 10 weeks of age *
Distemper + Parvovirus, MLV
(e.g. Merck Nobivac [Intervet Progard] Puppy DPV)

14 – 15 weeks of age
Distemper + Parvovirus, MLV
(e.g. Merck Nobivac [Intervet Progard] Puppy DPV)

18 weeks of age
Single Parvovirus, MLV
(Note:  new research states that last puppy parvovirus vaccine should be at 18 weeks)

20 weeks or older, if allowable by law
Rabies; mercury-free (TF)
(Note: give 3 - 4 weeks apart from other vaccinations)

1 year old
Rabies; 3-year product if allowable by law; mercury-free (TF)
(Note: give 3-4 weeks apart from other vaccinations)

1 year old
Distemper + Parvovirus, MLV (e.g. Merck Nobivac [Intervet Progard] Puppy DPV) or titer
This is an optional booster or titer. If the client intends not to booster after this optional booster or intends to retest titers in another
three years, this optional booster at puberty is wise.

Perform vaccine antibody titers for distemper and parvovirus every three years thereafter, or more often, if desired. Vaccinate for rabies virus according to the law, except where circumstances indicate that a written waiver needs to be obtained from the primary care veterinarian.

In that case, a rabies antibody titer can also be performed to accompany the waiver request. Visit The Rabies Challenge Fund for more information.

* Our puppies will have received their first vaccination before going to their new homes.
Please do your research and do not over-vaccinate your beloved dogs!

We Endorse & Support...
"...In addition to taking pleasure in being around kids, Larry is also great with other dogs, interacting equally well with both large and small breeds. He is such an amazing dog; we are looking forward to many, many years of companionship with him. He was definitely worth the wait!"
~ Jamie and Lisa Walter, Jackson, Wyoming
"Barney  just finished his first puppy class, and has mastered 'sit' and 'down', and is really doing well on 'leave it'. He's also learning to 'heel' and 'go play' when he walks with Jack and Maggie...We're SO glad it worked out for us to get him. We look forward to a lot more fun ahead, and staying connected."
~ John, Tim, Maggie, Jack & Barney, Dallas, TX
